Welcome to Lifeline Otjiwarongo

Lifeline ChildLine Namibia was engaged in a project in early childhood development entitled “support for holistic early childhood development in Otjozondjupa region, Otavi and Otjiwarongo.” The second phase of this project commenced in March 2018 with support from B2GOLD Namibia. This project supported 36 Early Childhood Development centres in Otjozondjupa region in total, 7 in Otavi and 29 in Otjiwarongo.”

Some of Project activities

To promote good parenting

The purpose of parenting training is to enhance the capacity of parents to have a better understanding of how they can build and/or strengthen relationships with their children. This will help them to better understand their children’s developmental needs and consequently meet their children’s various needs. 17 positive parentings were provided throughout the year attended by 341 parents. 130 were male and 211 female. The involvement of fathers in ECD matters have always been a challenge. The ECD centres have reported that they have noticed that parents who attended parenting training demonstrated improved interest in their children also communicate better with their children. These observation was also corroborated by parents themselves.

To raise the standards of early childhood care provided by Educarers

The educarers play an important role in building a child’s success in their first years of school, hence its important they are capacitated to ensure Namibian girls and boys have access to quality pre‐primary education. 9 trainings were conducted attended by 226 educares of which 6 were male and 220 female

To facilitate ECD centres to meet the National minimum standards

The project staff completed 372 site visits throughout the year. The aim of the mentoring visits is to help centres to improve based on the development plans, to enhance the capacities of ECD staff and to check on the progress to determine if ECD’s comply with the set agreements. We have exceeded the target of 360 because the staff started conducting visits before funds were disbursed in May 2018 and sometimes conducted visits to respond to the individual needs of ECD centres.
